English Learning

English is becoming a world language and it’s a useful tool for people to communicate with each other. Also, in our bridging course, we are mostly learning English. So how to learn it well? Ok, there are some tips.
First, vocabulary is the basic. We may meet too many new words in our supplementary materials or other guidance books, which may get us depressed. What I want to say is that don’t worry and just write down them in your notebook which you can review during your bus journey. It’s a good way to make full use of your time. Second, put what you have learned into use, just as the old saying “Practice makes perfect”. For example, you may use words that you learned yesterday in your today’s paragraph writing. What’s more, just open your mouth and speak a lot, not only in classes but also in daily life. Maybe you can plan your schedule and decide when you must speak English instead of Chinese. Last but not least, read a lot of English books. As for me, I like to take a book with me to a quiet place during the lunch time and read quietly. Just skip the difficult part. In this way, we may benefit a lot.
We may have different strategies, but we all share the same purpose---learning English well.

My learning strategies

My learning strategies
Frankly, I'm a lazy person. So having a plan before doing things is difficult to me. It's the same with my studies. At most of the time I may not have a strategy or a specific method in my studies. But of course, I have my own way to study. It might not be suitable for you, but to some degree, it's my strategies.
I think the most important strategy for me is paying all attention to my class. Because I believe that only in class can we learn knowledge and methods efficiently and absorb them sufficiently. By doing this, we needn’t spend too much time to review. So it can save a lot of time for us to do other activities, such as playing sports or watching movies and so on. This is the reason that it takes precedence over all strategies.
What’s more, I will never leave any questions of academy. I will solve it as soon as possible, because you may have forgotten your questions and your mistakes after a few days. Then your problems will remain as they were. So it’s necessary to find the answer as quickly as you can.
These are two of the most important strategies I have in my studies and I hope they can help you in some degree.

Learning Strategies

It is not a easy thing to learn a foreign language and we need to put a lot of efforts into it. However, it is far from enough. Proper learning strategies will help you learn more efficiently. For me, speaking and reciting are more useful.
Speaking may be one of the most widely accepted ways to learn English. When we speak aloud, we can hear our pronunciation clearly and change our mistakes straight away. What’s more, speaking requires us to form several complete sentences during a very short time, which forces us to think in English rather than just translate sentences. I highly recommend we start the day with a beautiful article and read it aloud on a balcony or other nice place. Choose some articles that can inspire us. Not only can we improve our English, but we can also put us into good mood, ready to enjoy the whole day.
Reciting also contributes to my English learning, but, someone may feel it is too  boring to do a thing like that. In my opinion, however, reciting enlarges my vocabulary and improves my ability to express myself. When I read, I tend to copy my favorite parts and try to recite them. Such parts can be a description of a nice place, an accurate description of one’s mind, etc.
That is all for my suggestions; I hope everyone can enjoy themselves
when learning English.

Skipping Chinese When Using English

Normally, we use Chinese to learn English. We learn a new English word by memorizing its Chinese meaning. As a result, when we understand or express something in English, our brain has to do translation from Chinese to English, which makes us difficult to use English as smoothly as the native speakers. Hence, if we are able to skip Chinese when using English, we can probably make a huge process in English learning.
To use English without the participation of Chinese, we need to avoid giving an English word a Chinese meaning. We had better use junior English words to define senior ones. For some English words with meanings of specific stuff in real life, we can even memorize them by forming pictures in our mind. In sum, no matter what methods do we adopt, the key point is to skip Chinese!
Besides, we are supposed to speak English as much as possible after class. As we usually speak chinese in daily life, the connection between the general stuff and its chinese name is confirm. Consequently, when we try to mention something which occurs in daily life, the Chinese name of it will come out instantly and interrupt us from seeking its English name. To avoid this condition, the only way we can adopt is to speak English instead of Chinese in daily life.
Furthermore, reading an English novel is a good way for us skip Chinese. When getting absorbed in an English novel, we enter an English environment so that we will unconsciously skip Chinese and understand the plots directly in English. After spending lots of time reading it,  we are able to come up with English words instantly instead of Chinese words when we are writing.
All in all, try to use English without the translation from Chinese and we will eventually become near native speakers.

English Learning Strategies

English, as our second language, is not easy to learn. If we want to lean it efficiently, we need to adopt some strategies.
First, activate your ears. Listening is very important in learning a foreign language. I think watching movies and TV shows is a very useful method. Sometimes listening to a radio like BBC can be a little boring. While watching movies and TV shows can not only attract our attention but also teach us some common uses of daily English. However, we should pay attention to the choice of movies. Not all the movies are suitable. Because the lines in some movies are so casual that they don’t follow the rules of grammar. We’d better select the classic movies. Besides, don’t just choose the American movies or TV drama. We should watch them form different English speaking countries so that we can enrich ourselves with more vocabularies and phrases. The more we practice listening, the more clearly we’ll listen to the native speakers.
Second, open your mouth. Some people are afraid to speak a foreign language in front of a lot of people just like me. But I think practice makes perfect. Speaking more with others can increase your confidence. Although sometimes we can not express ourselves by using the exact words, sometimes we just can’t think of the words we’ve already known, but the situation will get better if we keep on talking with others in English.
In addition, never stop reading. Reading English books or newspaper can be a good way of learning lots of new words. It can also deliver to you fresh information and different views. Absorb them and then you’ll have something helpful in your mind.
Last but not least, make every effort , stick to your strategies and never give up!

Learning strategies

I think it is a big topic to talk about learning strategies, because there are many things we can learn, such as languages, skills and knowledge. So what I will mention here is only learning strategies on English.

As for English, I have learnt for about 11 years, so I have some experience no matter how my English level is.

I don’t think people can remember English words by repeating it again and again. I have no idea whether there is a best way to recite English words or not, but I can learn the words by heart by reading the textbooks when I was a junior student. As time went by, I was admitted by senior high school, and my English told us her method about enriching vocabulary, which is reviewing the words in a certain time. She said, “I must memorise lots of words when I was in university, so I looked at every words intently. And I read them every day before I went to bed, then I had impression of them, so I knew its meaning when I saw one of my memorised words. Besides, I reviewed the words in a certain time, maybe once a month or longer. I didn’t try to recite them as soon as possible, because I would forget them if I didn’t use them for a long time. So using the words is important as well.” I agree with my teacher very much.

How about grammar? Watching grammar books or doing lots of exercises? No! It’s boring. I haven’t recited the grammar what eacher asked to, but I obeyed teacher’s words to recite texts in the morning reading. Now that you must read something, why not reciting the texts? And I got high marks in exams because I had intuition to judge. Of course that was I have done during the junior school days, there wasn’t much time for us to do that and the passages were too long when we were in higher grades. So maybe you can suggest your younger sisters and brothers to learn grammar like this.

When your English basic is steady, you should improve it and learn more about proverbs, culture for further communication. A friend of mine once said to me, “Recently I was reading the Bible in English, on which I usually conversed with foreigners. As you know, I have seen more than 100 Hollywood films, so there is no difficult to me. I like the feeling when I talking with people who I want to on my interested topic.” So I think it is a wonderful idea to watch movies for improving English skills.

These are my experience about English learning strategies, you can adapt what you consider is useful and learn from them. I will be thankful if you can share your strategies with me.

Communicate in English

There are so many learning strategies of English. But what is the best one? There may be no best strategies. So you must find the most suitable one for yourself. And it is of great use for me to communicate with local people in English.

Many people find it difficult to learn English very fast. It is normal because English is not your mother tongue. Suppose that you were born in an English-speaking country, of course you can pick up English very easily. Everyone around you is speaking English, so you have to practice. Just like that you are a Chinese, you can master Chinese at a young age. That is to say, communication is a good learning strategy.

By communicating with people who speak English, you can improve your English level virtually. And being a near-native speaker is not only a dream any more. Good spoken English enables you to adapt to a new environment rapidly. However, we may be afraid of talking with local friends in English. To tell you the truth, I fell really embarrassed when making any mistake. Under this circumstance, I would keep silent rather than speak. As a saying goes, ‘all enemies are tiger made of paper’, believe yourself, you can do anything. Moreover, set a goal for yourself like how long you will chat with the local. For example, speak English during lunchtime and try your best to finish it. As time flies, you are able to find your process.

Just remember to integrating communication and learning, speak English more,in this way can you master English better.
