Dove—for the chilly beautiful love

Many people have eaten Dove chocolate, but not all of them know the story behind “Dove”. Why this chocolate is called Dove and what is the story of Dove? I am going to tell you this story.
This story began at the spring in 1919, when Leon who invented Dove and named this chocolate several years later met Ba Sally, the other main role in this story. At that time, Leon was an apprentice in Luxembourg royal kitchen and Ba Sally was a princess of Bourbon. They encountered and fell in love with each other, but neither of them expressed their love to the other because of their different status.
Ba Sally liked eating ice cream, so Leon made ice cream almost every day and wanted to make the most delicious ice cream for her. One day, Ba Sally thought maybe they could add chocolate into ice cream to make it better, so they tried to find the way to make chocolate flavour ice cream. Several months later, however, before Leon’s success, they were told that Ba Sally would marry the prince of Belgium due to political reasons and would leave Luxembourg soon. At Ba Sally’s last meal in Luxembourg, because Leon did not succeed to make chocolate ice cream, he just wrote “DOVE” for “Do you love me” on her ice cream with hot chocolate and expected that Ba Sally would understand his love, but she was so sad that she did not want to eat anything, so she did not look at ice cream until all chocolate was dissolved.
After her leaving, he married a girl and had a son, but he missed Ba Sally so much that he divorced with his wife. One day, he decided to meet her. Finally, he found her and realized that she loved him so much that once knowing he was married she got heavily sick. When Leon saw her, she was going to die due to illness. After calling Leon’s name for several times, she passed away.
Leon regretted that he had not let her know his love before her leaving and he thought if the chocolate was solid and it would not dissolve, so Sa Bally would know his love. Then he began trying to make solid chocolate. Several months later, he successfully made the solid and delicious chocolate. To show his love and regret, he decided to sign “DOVE” at each chocolate he made.
That is the story of Dove. Next time when you eat Dove, I believe you can taste the deep love in it if you still remember this story.

  1. Thanks for your story. I am impressed by the love of Leon and Ba Sally. Maybe only the sweetness of chocolate can express the beautiful love.

  2. It is a beautiful story. In addition to the connotation of Dove, it taught me to be brave to love and never let it to be the regret of the whole life.

  3. I have heard the story before. It really touched me. Love is beautiful, even if it is desolate. I learned that just speak out the inner sence, speak out love in spite of the result.

  4. In a relationship, it is all about communication - when to communicate, how much to communicate, where to communicate, how frequent, and so on. If you have something to say, then say it or else you will leave a live of regret.
