Nowadays, many Chinese students enjoy listening to pop music, which implies a sharp decline in the Chinese meaningful songs. Maybe it is hard to belive that I hardly ever listen to the songs by famous Chinese singers, like Jay Zhou, Wang Lihong and Lin Junjie. As far as I am concerned, the music is not only a tool to have fun, but a way to express our feelings and deepen our spiritual enjoyment as well; I prefer meaningful songs, such as the songs about a close fraternal tie between our “blood brothers” and relatives. Therefore, I would like to share one of my favorite songs, “My Good Brother”, with you.
It is a song sang by Xiao Shenyang and Gao Jin; this vibrant song first came into my world just after the College Entrance Examination. My confidants in my high school knew that I did poorly in the exam and could not enter the same university as them. To cheer me up, they gave me this song and said that they would always “keep abreast, on my side”; they all encouraged me and wished me a bright future. I cherished this song and went to Harbin Institute of Technology for my Bachelor Degree. Later, I knew that there was a chance to go to the National University of Singapore for further education. Then, I prepared carefully and took the examination. Just like the lyrics in the song, “life is full of ups and downs”. Finally, I was able to grasped this chance and came to Singapore. To my surprise, my classmates in Harbin Iinstitute of Technology also sang this song to me before I left for Singapore. I was deeply moved; I could not help burst into tears and I have cherished this precious song since then.
Now, I have already lived in Singapore for a couple of weeks. Whenever I feel isolated, this song will pop into my head; this song gives me confidence and encouragement, because I know that there are many people on my side unconditionally. With their support, I can strive for my dream here and I strongly believe that I will happily sing this song with them in the future.
Bowen, first, I want to say: How can you be so fast!

DeleteThanks for sharing your personal story and recommending this song! Could you play it for us during the class break some time? Also, I wonder whether you like the song "Be Strong Boys"(男儿当自强)by George Lam. It is one of my favourite Chinese songs, because it reminds me of my best friend in high-school and the great times we shared together. Songs with memories are extra-special, aren't they? ^_^
