Learning English through Reading
Everyone starts to learn their mother tongue by listening.A little baby ,which doesn't know any words ,speaks out his first word ----"mom" simply by listening and imitating what he heard from his mother.However,when it comes to learning a foreign language,since the language is not what we usually heard ,our ways of studying have to be changed.
In that case reading can play a very important role in our English studying. Because when we are reading a newspaper or a novel,we see a lots of new words and .So our vocabulary is enlarged .those paragraphs also give us certain situations for each new word.Therefore the memorizing will be much easier. At the same time,those phrasal verbs and collocations may contribute a lot to our grammar.
Besides vocabulary and grammar,there are another two benefits of English reading.one of them is gaining knowledge. It is obvious that we can get some information from any forms of reading.the other is learning how to think in a western way. Chinese way of writing tends to use more content to describe the circumstance and feelings (this is what we call "qi xing").But the western way is more direct.So in order to write in proper English,we should think in a western way first.Reading can help us to achieve that.

I certainly agree with you that reading is a good habit to cultivate from a young age due to its many benefits. Reading allows you to embark on a journey of self-imagination and discovery.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your opinion. Reading can give us a lot of knowledge, not just the vocabulary but also the western way of thinking. Chinese way of writing is much different from the western way, so we should get used to the western way as soon as possible. Besides, using the collacations in our speaking can make ourselves understood easily.
