If there are two things for you to choose
from, which one will you choose? I think you will choose the one which you like
better. This week’s theme is taste and preference, so today I want to talk
about effects that preference has on our daily life.
First, it can make you become too
subjective. I cannot repudiate that all people have their preference on
choosing things. Of course, someone first choice is his or her favourite thing.
Owing to this reason, people cannot pay attention to other choices, which makes
trouble. For example, you need to buy a text book. You may choose the book written
by your favoutite writer. However, there may be some better books, but you are
not interested in. As a result, you make a bad choice without realizing it.
Second, preference may do harm to others. I
think you all have your own preference on who can be you friend. That is to
say, if you meet someone you are not interested in, you may have a prejudice on
him or her. In our daily life, it actually happens. For instance, in a class,
when something bad happens, teachers will be suspect ones who are considered as
bad gays. In this way can teachers do harm to their heart. Maybe they want to
correct, but no one believe in them.
So in summary, too much preference can have
a side effect on our daily life.
I think so. Prejudice may influence us to be subjective. We may miss something that we like and we might misunderstand some people. I think when we judge something, we should search the information about it, at least. Making a conclusion without learning about this thing is subjective.
ReplyDeleteThe situations you mentioned can be widely seen in my daily life. Your words make me rethink about my prejudice towards everything. Maybe I should be more careful about the side effects that too much preferences brings to me.
ReplyDeleteAs you said, people often judge things by their own preferences. I agree with you. Sometimes people are subjective because of preferences, which can affect their decisions. They may lose some opportunities of making good friends. I think it's better to think twice before judge something or somebody.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. It is important for a person to have something special and not to be general. Many peers are have this problem, including me, and this situation does not give us a direct goal to fight for. Therefore, it is a serious thing for us to think over.
ReplyDeleteI think preference have a boundry with prejudice, but it is not so clear. Sometimes, a preference can become a kind of prejudice. I hope preference can be more irrational.
ReplyDeleteIt's true that almost every one has preferences, and it's kind of unavoidable. To make better choices and judgements, I think we need to get as much imformation as possible to lessen prejudice. Although preferences have side effects, however, I think it's preferences that make everyone's features.
ReplyDeleteTo some degree, preference and prejudice are brothers. Subjectivity in judging makes every unique. I think having unique preference is not bad but as you mentioned in the passage, we should not harm others because of our preference.
