As I know,
now, in Singapore, local Chinese students learn history about Singapore, but
they learn little about Chinese history. Even some Chinese students from China do
not know about Chinese history. Actually, Chinese history is a gift for all Chinese
people.
From history,
we can learn a lot. On the one hand, some events that happened in the history
reflected how people thought and how things developed. They can help us avoid
mistakes in advance and deduce results. On the other hand, there were many
great persons in the history who had unique method to solve problems. These are
also what we can imitate and improve ourselves. It is pride for us to talk about
history with others, because china has a long history, especially tell others
stories happened in history. As a Chinese, in my view, it is our duty to know
what happened in the past, because it is a part of culture and tradition to
pass on.
In sum,
although history is something seems boring, in which way I think, it is essential
for us to learn history. Now there are many books, or novels about history. Also
some movies and TV dramas are created about history. I think it is an
interesting way to know history by them. We can choose ones which near the true
history and enjoy them. In a word, we need to know and learn from our own history,
as a gift to all Chinese.

ReplyDeleteI think Chinese history is no only our gift but also our wealth. We do not need to learn it on purpose as learning it in high school. We can make it one part of our life. As you wrote, we can read about it or watch TV programmes about it just for fun. I'll learn more about it and introduce it to others.
ReplyDeleteActually, when I was in Junior High School, history is the subject that I was afraid of most, because I could not remember the dates of some specific historical events. However, it is a truth that we can see, feel,and learn a lot from our history.
ReplyDeleteThe history of China can be dated back to thousands of years ago and may be that is the reason for its difficulty. In Singapore, I also find some of the local students know more about the Chinese history than me. I think even we will not be tested again, it is also good to learn more about that.
ReplyDeleteI am ashamed to admit that as a Chinese I know little about Chinese history ,for thst it is a little bit boring foe me. But I admit that history is important for a country and its citizens.So I am glad that I can learn Chinese history in Singapore.

I think history is interesting. It may show our life. We read the history like we read our story.
Like many of you, I also found history a tedious subject to study when I was a student. However, my interest in history, not only of Singapore and China but also have other countries and other parts of the world was kindled when I started watching cable TV, mainly Discovery Channel, National Geographic Channels, and BBC channels. I started to see how history has an impact on the world today, including relations between countries and different culture in different parts of the world. I guess when we put examinations out of our minds and learn just for the sake of learning, interest blossoms.

ReplyDeleteYour opinion is quite similar to mine. When I was in junior high school, I did not care about my history grade. It was not until I grew up that I suddenly realized that as a Chinese, it was shame to know nothing about our ancestors and our own culture. I think it is necessary for everyone to study the history of our country.
