Human cloning

This week we have discussed a lot about clone and we know that there were several animals being cloned successfully, including Dolly and CC. The fundamental theory of clone is making an identical creature by using one’s genes, so the success of animal cloning means that it is not impossible to clone humans. Several months ago, I read from a newspaper that some scientists were going to start human clone experiment in the few months. However, some people, including me, think that human clone may cause some serious problems.

One of the most serious problems is about ethics. Since cloned humans are artificial, what should the relationship be between them and their genes providers? Children and parents? Brothers or sisters? No one can give a correct answer and persuasive evidence until now. Moreover, it is also indeterminate that who should take the responsibly of these cloned people’s behaviours. They are made by scientists and they may grow up with their “fathers/mothers”. If they crime before they are adults, it may be caused by the mistakes in their creating process made by scientists or the incorrect family atmosphere and education from their “parents”. Thus, it is hard to say who should be blamed for.

Besides ethics, many people also think that it is a resistance of nature. We human beings should come from our parents not from a lab; we should be natural not artificial. It is an offence of human rights; no one should have this right to determine others genes which should be determined by nature. Furthermore, many people who believe in religions claim that it is also an offence of their gods, because in their belief, we are made by gods. If we make humans by our own, it is showing that these people can do what should be done by gods.

In conclusion, I do not think human clone as a beneficial technology. Once cloned humans are made, there will be more problems coming with them.

  1. I think the ideas have some similarities with Jingrui’s blog. I agree with both of you and I think human cloning has a long way to go. Thanks you very much. By the way, I think that the morality may negatively affect the improvement of the bio-technology sometimes, so we may need to carefully think of it.

  2. I also think human cloning is not reasonable and it may cause many problems. I cannot accept human cloning. Once scientists have some advanced technology, they will imagine a lot and they hope to use such technology on human. I read a news that the Russian and Korean scientist are going to clone a mammoth by using the genes from a skull of mammoth. Because the genes are not complete, they want to combine a special elephant's genes with the mammoth's ones. It is so difficult that I do not believe they will succeed.

    1. Generally speaking, I agree with you, but I also believe that as technology developing at a rapid speed, human cloning may come true in the future. I do not know, hehe.

    2. I think the problem is not whether they can succeed or not. The point is whether they should do this. I believe that human beings have no right to change other creatures genes.

  3. I am still wondering why scientists want to clone human beings. I think it is unnecessary to clone normal human being. Maybe when a child died of an accidents, the young couple would treat cloning as a way to make their died children revive, but how will the reborn child think? He has already died and his body is only a substitute. So I do not approve cloning human beings either.

  4. I think the example of religious people believing in humans created by God is quite effective and also somewhat surprised to me. For me, I also agree with opinion that cloning can cause serious results.

  5. Sometimes it is hard to say a certain invention is right or wrong, is good or bad, just like cloning. For me, I do not think cloning human beings is necessary. As the article has mentioned, there are many orphans in the world, why some people prefer to spend so much time and money to clon a child.

  6. I cannot believe that scientists were going to clone humans, as I know, there is a low worldwide that human cloning is not allowed. Hope those scientists realised that they are doign the unaccepted things and give up cloning humans finally.

  7. I cannot accept cloning human beings. I think that as a new technology, it is not wrong to develop it and do some experiment, but it is not right to use it to develop the population as there are such a big number of people now.

  8. While technology has its advantages, it should be used with caution, lest it will be subjected to abuse. One area in which it should not be used is in cloning human beings or animals. There is a limit in terms of what man can do and he should not try to play God.
