Sleep

Today, we discussed something about sleep. As far as I know, it is common to feel tired and sleepy after sleeping either too little or too much.
As for me, when I sleep after 2:00 a.m. and get up at about 7:10, I will feel tired the whole day. Besides, if I do not have enough sleep after lunch, I will be lackadaisical in the afternoon. The brain works like a computer. When a computer has been used for a long time without a break, it may break down. Our brain cannot work keep working for a long time either, or it will not be energetic enough to work well. Therefore, enough sleep is necessary.
It is easy to explain why we feel tired without enough sleep, but it is strange that we still feel tired after too much sleep. When I wake up on weekends, I still want to sleep. After sleeping for another one hour, I feel too tired to get up and the whole day will be an inactive and sleepy day. I searched it on the internet and got the answer. The reason is that our body keeps relaxed when we are sleeping, but too much sleep make it get used to the relaxed condition. Therefore, when we get up after sleeping too long, our body is not energetic. In addition, the sleeping part of our brain keeps active during sleeping while other parts are repressed. When we get up, our brain cannot recover from that condition, which results in our sleepiness.
Sometimes, however, we cannot avoid staying up late. To be energetic the next day, sleeping for about 30 minutes when we feel sleepy during the day is helpful.

  1. Wow, I do not know that excessive sleep may even have worse effects on us. To tell the truth, I slept only 5 hours yesterday because I stayed up late chatting with my friends through QQ, but I do not know why I am still energetic now. Maybe different people have different lifestyles and the lifestyle can also be changed through ages. I used to sleep 9 hours a day, but now I get into a habit of sleeping for 7 hours a day. It is really different and I hope that I can learn more about sleep from you. Thank you.

  2. As you mentioned, excessive sleep can even cause people more sleepy. Yet for me, too much sleep is at least better than no sleep. I feel great that I can have a nap at noon in CELC.

  4. Yes, when I sleep to long, I cannot be energetic.. Now I sleep about 8 hours per day. I think 8 hours is really suitable for teenagers in our age :)

  6. During my high school, I always sleep too much on weekend. I find that I can still get asleep even I do not feel tired in the morning, but if I do, I will sleep for several hours and become tired. My friends made a joke that sleep is a tiring work. Now, I always get up at 7:30 on weekend. Although I spend less time sleeping, I feel more energetic.

  7. I heard that there is no need to sleep too long when one is still alive, for one can sleep for a ling time after death. As for young adults, I think to have a regular timetable for sleep is a sensible choice to help us enjoy life better.

  8. when I was on holidays, I used to sleep for 9 hours every day. Maybe it is not too long, but usually I only sleep for 7 hours. Now I find the reason why I was very tired during the holidays. Next time, I think I should keep my habit of sleeping and then I could feel better.

  10. Thank you for sharing the reason that I would feel uncomfortable when I get up late. In weekend or holidays before, I always got up late (later than 10 a.m.) and I would feel headache and weak. And I have another problem about sleep; I dream every night and therefore, when I get up, I will also feel tried. I don’t know how to solve it, could you offer some advice?
