Yesterday is history
'Tis so far away
Yesterday is poetry
'Tis philosophy
Yesterday is mystery
Where it is today?
While we shrewdly speculate
Flutter both away
(Note: ‘Tis means it is.)
This is a poem written by Emily Dickinson, who is an American poet. After reading this poem, I have many feelings.
Yesterday has gone, but it has left some trails in people’s minds. Maybe people regret about what they have done yesterday. Maybe people think yesterday’s experience is very impressive and precious. Maybe yesterday is very painful for someone. But all these have gone. Yesterday is just our memory forever, and can never be changed. Many tend to recall yesterday, think about their past life, and try to figure out the significance of yesterday to their whole life. But in the process of continuous thinking, today has become yesterday and has nothing special. In this case, the thinking is meaningless to some degree.
Yesterday has gone, and what we need to do is to put our experience and feelings about yesterday deeply in our hearts. No matter what has happened yesterday, today is still going on, and our life is still continuing. Yesterday is our treasure, for it can help us understand something and teach us how to act well today. After all, men are mature and grown up because of what they have experienced yesterday. But men’s priority is to live in today and enjoy today. In this way, people can create themselves an unregretful today and an unforgettable yesterday. At the same time, they can enjoy their life to the fullest, which is the most important thing for life in my mind.
Thought-provoking idea. As far as I am concerned, though "yesterday" was past, it has a great many things to do with us now. Because of yesterday, I am the person who I am "today." "Yesterday" and "today" are same important in my life^_^
ReplyDeleteThis is a short poem but it means a lot. When a read this poem, I come up with many Chinese poems. Maybe that is because great minds think in the similar way. I agree with you that the most precious time is now and we need to value it.
ReplyDeleteIt is good not to worry about what happened yesterday, but as for me, it is really hard to make it.
ReplyDeleteYesterday cannot be changed, and all we have about yesterday is memory. Maybe you are a so emotional boy sometimes...
DeleteI think it is good but hard to do. I will try to do so in the future. This poem reminds me the famous saying of Shakespeare. I like this poem.
ReplyDeleteI am always concerned about my yesterday. Every time I am unhappy, I will recall my past with my best old friends.
ReplyDeleteYesterday is history, and tomorrow is another day.
