There is a question in our material asking whether I agree that it is the environment that shapes people’s personality. Though most classmates in my group agree with it, I strongly disagree about that. I will give you two reasons to support that nature also makes a great contribution to people’s personality.
The first reason is that though growing up in the same environment, two children can have different personalities. To illustrate, in my high school, there are two fraternal twins, which mean that they are from different eggs and have different genes. They grew up in the same environment and almost every one treated them the same when they were children. However, when they enrolled for the same junior high school, things began to change. The younger one was hard-working and usually got high marks in examinations, while the older one was lazy and usually got low marks. As a result, they performed differently in college entrance examination in China and now they are studying in different universities. From this example, we can learn that the nature can influence a person’s personality.
The other reason is that intelligence quotient is determined by nature and intelligence quotient determines a person’s learning skills. When a child grows up, his/her brain is growing and his/her intelligence quotient is increasing, too. Consequently, they will think differently due to their different intelligence quotient and different knowledge. For example, when a smart child and a foolish child come into a difficult mathematic question, the smart one can easily work out it but the foolish child may be not able to figure it out, so the smart child may be confident and the foolish one may be self-abased. Therefore, nature can influence people’s personality continuously in their lives.
In conclusion, nature deeply influences a person’s personality. In some cases, its contribution to personality is even greater than what nurture makes.
“Nature VS Nurture” is really complicated question that people has debated for a long time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you to some extent but I also think that there may not be a easy answer to this question. As far as I am concerned, both nature and nuture are equally and extremely important.
In my opinion, environment and nature both can influence a person's personality, but which one is more decisive is not clear. I think sometimes nature plays a more important role, while sometimes environment has more influence. Neither of them can exert an influence on a person's personality separately. I think they are interedependent and unified.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your thoughts on this age-old debate of nature versus nuture. It is a matter of degree if it is nature or nurture that shapes a person's personality.
