Chinese Homesick Poem
Most Chinese poetries are written to express emotions. These emotions include their love toward their lovers, friends, and relatives, their strong will to achieve things, their happiness towards their lifestyles and so on. Among all Chinese poems I have read, I like those poems that express the poets' missing home most. These poems usually depict beautiful scenes for reader at their former parts and deliver writers' emotions towards their hometown at the latter part. I enjoy both these two parts much.
At the first part, poets use only a few characters to depict a scene. It is impressive that almost every single character in this part delivers a whole meaning. That is, poet uses single character to denote time, location, an object, or the feature possessed by the object. In this way, a whole picture which contains a few factors are shown by few characters. Also, readers can taste every single character because it usually has tasty content.
At the second part, poets express their emotions towards their hometown. They convey affection in implicit and explicit ways. To make it implicit, poets may contrast the views in their hometowns with the views around them; they will show their preference to the views in hometown. Similarly, they may contrast food or customs. They express their emotion implicitly through the comparison. In contrary, they may directly claim how badly they miss their hometown. Their emotions are delivered fully in this way and readers can feel the intension. With the fist part laid as background, both the implicit and explicit way can effectively convey poets' emotion.
I like homesick poems because their rich content and clear structure. Also, the fact that I am now far away from home and a little homesick also contributes to my affection toward these poems.
