To The Oak

Appreciating poetry is this week’s theme, and today we talked about family and marriage. When these two come together, one poem occurs to my mind: To The Oak. To The Oak is a modern poem written by Shu Ting, a famous Chinese poet and writer. I appreciate the poem both in the language and the thoughts.
In this poem, Shu Ting uses many metaphors, and oak refers to the male she loves. The whole poem shows her value of love: ardency, sincerity, equality and loyalty.
” We partake cold tide, thunder storm, firebolt
Together we share brume, flowing mist, rainbow
As if we separate all the time
Actually we forever rely on each other”
How great the love is! Especially Shu Ting published the poem just after the Cultural Revolution. I think it is the love that many people are looking for. No matter what happens, there is always someone who will accompany you.
“Love
 Not only your giant body
But also the position you stand, the earth under your feet”
The poet expresses her expectations about love through this poem. The words and sentences in poems can usually reflect the poets’ feelings and emotions, and this is one point we can taste and appreciate. I think girls should look forward to the Oak as Shu Ting mentioned, a soulmate and a eternal company.

  1. I like ShuTing's poems, too. By the way, I think that the pomes wrote by ShiZhi and BeiDao may have the same style with ShuTing's. I really appreciate this style and want to learn more from you, thanks.

  3. What a coincidence!
Maybe two or three days ago, I just downloaded this poem for someone who loves it.
I have never read Shu Ting's poems before, but now, I think I am full of enthusiasm to read them.
As for me, I read many poems by Xi Murong; I think the sentences in them are not only beautiful but touching.

  4. I have never heard of this poet, so I am encouraged by your blog to find more information of her and her poems. Thanks a lot! What a pity that until now I haven't found my favorite poem and poet. I need to read more poems. Poetry may make me more romantic and emotional. By the way, this poem is really beautiful and moving. It tells me what a true love is.

  5. The first time I heard To The Oak was in my junior high school. At that time, I could hardly understand it, let alone appreciate it. But before I read your blog, I read it again. I have a different feeling;it is a impulse to cry. Love is company. We are together through everything.

  6. As far as I know, Shu Ting's literary works are always easy to understand, but full of emotions. To the Oak is realy a good poem. As a female, she needs to find a company who can share feelings with her, and treat her like a soulmate, rather than someone who is rely on him.I love the sentence most:
"As if we separate all the time. Actually we forever rely on each other."
